CHARLOTTE ROWAN MCGIRR, VIOLINIST

An inspirational talent, Charlotte Rowan McGirr has been captivating audiences with her dazzling instrumental virtuosity from an early age.

Born in Clackmannan, Scotland in 1991, Charlotte Rowan started violin lessons at the age of 3 ½ and continued her musical studies as a pupil of Dollar Academy.   At the age of 16, she was accepted into the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, USA to study with Violaine Melancon.  In addition to obtaining a Bachelor of Music Degree in Violin Performance in 2012, her highlights at Peabody included being made concertmaster of the Peabody Orchestra in her first year, performing for US Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, and participating in masterclasses with the Juilliard String Quartet and world renowned violinist Midori.

Always keen to explore different genres of music, Charlotte Rowan’s repertoire ranges from the rich sonorities of J.S.Bach, to the flamboyance of Sarasate and the elegant charm of Kreisler.

Charlotte Rowan is performing at the Fitzwilliam Concert Series in Cambridge on 26th May, 2013 and in Southwark Cathedral on 20th August, 2013.
